Raymond DEPARDON

Born in 1942 in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France.
Lives and works in Clamart, France.

Raymond Depardon has directed 21 feature films and published more than 60 books. The youngest son of a family of farmers, he began photographing his parents' farm at the age of 12. In 1958, he moved to Paris and joined the Dalmas agency as a reporter, before co-founding Gamma in 1966. He has been a member of the Magnum agency since 1979. In 1998, he undertook a long photographic and cinematographic work devoted to the French rural world. He was awarded the Louis-Delluc prize with La vie moderne in 2008. In 2011, he will exhibit his four years of work on the roads entitled La France de Raymond Depardon at the BnF. In 2013, the exhibition Un moment si doux is presented at the Grand Palais in Paris and in 2014 at the Mucem in Marseille. His latest film, 12 jours, was released in theaters at the end of 2017. The exhibition Depardon USA 1968-1999, was presented at the Rencontres d'Arles 2018.

He becomes Louis Foucherand’s assistant.
1960
He enters the Dalmas Agency. Covers the Algerian War. Becomes, in five years, the main reporter of the agency.
1966
He co-founded the Gamma agency.
1978
He leaves Gamma and and joins Magnum.
1981
He co-founded Double D copyright films.
1992
He co-founded the Palmeraie et Désert film production company.
2002
Absorption of Double D copyright films by Palmeraie et Désert.
2010
He co-founded the BAL. He his its president.
