Temporary Exhibition
Claude Monet's "Water Lily Pond, Pink Harmony" & "Under Construction" by Fabrice Hyber
Monet's painting will be showcased on the second floor of the Palais Fesch, in a room situated along the perspective of the permanent collection route, juxtaposed with Fabrice Hyber's installation "Under Construction".
From Italian Primitives to Corsican painters of the first half of the 20th century, spanning through the Baroque, the Napoleonic department, and a few examples of Salon paintings, the Ajaccio collection offers a broad panorama of classical painting. Monet's work's modernity serves as a gateway to 20th and 21st-century art, opening the eyes of the Ajaccian public to new horizons.
Claude Monet's "Water Lily Pond, Pink Harmony," dated 1900, is part of the extensive series of Water Lilies developed over almost thirty years, culminating in the "Grand Decorations" at the Orangerie. The motif, a pond planted with aquatic flowers and traversed by a Japanese bridge, "a true transposition of art more than a model for a painting," as Marcel Proust described, was conceived and constructed by the artist himself in his garden at Giverny.
The construction of the garden, the use of water, and the adaptation of plants resonate with the concerns of our time.
Philippe Costamagna, director of the Palais Fesch, asked Fabrice Hyber, an artist deeply concerned with nature and ecology, to create a work echoing Monet's painting, titled "Under Construction."
"An artwork is also a living organism," says Hyber. He further states, "My paintings depict a world never finished, in constant transformation."
